What if you’re using a premium Smartphone? What if your mobile contains valuable information that you don’t want others to get hold off? Will you ignore the theft? Absolutely Not! Right? So, in this article, I am going to discuss a few tips that can help you to block mobile with IMEI number or recover the lost/stolen mobile phone in India.
Each and every mobile phone will have a unique IMEI number (International mobile equipment identification) which could be used in situations like mobile theft. As the IMEI number is not SIM card dependent, you can easily catch hold of your mobile even though the SIM card has been replaced.
In Order to find your mobile’s IMEI number, simply dial *#06# and note down your IMEI number for future reference. If you forget to write down your mobile’s IMEI beforehand, then don’t worry! It can also be found on the backside of the box in which the mobile was packed when you first purchased it.
Note: Remember to block your IMEI number only after the police have failed to locate the mobile and not before that.
Also, do remember that blocking the IMEI number from a particular network will also block the number from other mobile networks as they use the shared service.
Now even if the thief has changed the SIM card, he won’t be able to use the mobile phone or access your valuable information like credit card details, banking and personal info.
Ex: If you block the IMEI number by calling to Airtel customer care, it will automatically be blocked in Vodafone, Idea, BSNL, Jio 4G etc…
In addition to filing an FIR and seeking the help of police officials, you may also use the Android Device Manager app to locate your mobile phone. Using the lock PIN, you can also erase all the data on your phone wirelessly using the web application.
However, this app works only if the user who stole your device connects to the Internet from the phone.
Additionally, you may also use the Track IMEI service to locate your lost mobile – http://www.trackimei.com/

Iwant block my phone imei number
Hi Radha Krishna,
It's really good to know that we have option of getting stolen mobile phone blocked using IMEI number. I am eager to know if Indian telecom service providers (i.e airtel, vodafone, etc) can really block an IMEI number. My mobile phone was stolen recently and I contacted airtel customer care. The customer care told me blocking IMEI is not possible. Do we have any regulations passed by TRAI on blocking of IMEI numbers or any other information that can be provided as reference to telecom service providers? If yes, please share. Thanks.
I lost my mobile phone last week.
After reading this post, I contacted the service provider to block the phone using IMEI number...... unfortunately I was told that they do not have such an option.
So, just wondering whether it is about the the genuineness of the post or whether the customer care agent do not have that information?
